Lee sits out, Kolkata bat
Sourav Ganguly walked out for the toss at the Eden Gardens to a big applause, though ironically not as captain of the home team. Gautam Gambhir, his opposite number, won the toss for Kolkata Knight Riders and opted to bat first.
Knight Riders made one change to the line-up, bringing in South Africa fast bowler Marchant de Lange for Brett Lee, but Gambhir didn't explain the reasons for the change.
Pune Warriors brought in Angelo Mathews for the opener Jesse Ryder, while they replaced fast bowler Ashish Nehra with an extra batsman in Manish Pandey.
The big talking point was not necessarily how the under-performing Warriors would face up to the more dominant Knight Riders, but rather how Kolkata would receive Ganguly as the leader of the opposition.
Kolkata Knight Riders: 1 Brendon McCullum (wk), 2 Gautam Gambhir (capt), 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 Manoj Tiwary, 5 Yusuf Pathan, 6 Laxmi Shukla, 7 Rajat Bhatia, 8 Debabrata Das, 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Marchant de Lange, 11 Iqbal Abdulla
Pune Warriors: 1 Robin Uthappa (wk), 2 Manish Pandey, 3 Michael Clarke, 4 Sourav Ganguly (capt), 5 Steven Smith, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Mithun Manhas, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Murali Kartik, 11 Ashok Dinda
